An educational visit to the facilities of the ONEX Group, at the Elefsina Shipyards, was carried out today by thirty students from the School of Engineers of the Aspropyrgos Merchant Marine Academy. These students are in their 4th semester and have already completed their first training voyage.
According to the accompanying professors, the purpose of the visit was to enrich the knowledge of the future engineers through experiential learning, offering them the opportunity to closely observe the working environment of a shipyard and gain substantial experience that enhances their professional training.
The visit program included three stages. Initially, a presentation was given on the Elefsina Shipyards and the vision guiding their modernization and developmental path, within the framework of the major investment being implemented by the ONEX Group. This was followed by a detailed tour of the production areas, with stops at the shipbuilding berth, the workshops (plate shop, machine shop, fitting shop, pipe shop, electrical shop), and the upgraded floating docks.
Throughout the tour, company executives answered the students' questions, contributing to a better understanding of the processes and technical operation of a modern shipyard.
In the final part of the visit, a discussion was held focusing on employment conditions and the professional opportunities offered by the sector. The aim was to provide students with a clear picture of the skills and prospects associated with a future collaboration with the Elefsina Shipyards.
Upon the delegation's departure, the accompanying professors expressed their gratitude for the hospitality and stated they were particularly impressed by the pace of work, the passion of the human resources, and the developmental vision of the ONEX Group. They further emphasized that this visit surpassed the nature of a typical educational activity and requested that it be repeated in the future.
The students were accompanied by professors: Nikolaos Fragkiadakis, Associate Professor – Director of the School of Engineers (Naval Architect and Marine Engineer), Dimitrios Kioupis, Assistant Professor (Chemical Engineer), and Marios Mastrokallos, Assistant Professor (Naval Architect and Marine Engineer).
The ONEX Group highlights the importance of such visits, as students from maritime and technical schools, universities, and polytechnics constitute the human capital from which, in the immediate future, the executives will emerge to staff the Greek shipbuilding industry, contributing to its development and continuous strengthening.
