ONEX continues to innovate and invest in shipyards, making Greece a leader in the Mediterranean. After 15 years, the ONEX Syros shipyards are reactivating the SYNCROLIFT. This is a shiplift system that can be used for the maintenance, repair, conversion, and new construction of vessels. It is capable of lifting and transporting ships with a maximum weight of 2,500 tons. Additionally, it can accommodate the launching of newly built vessels in this category.
The Syncrolift at Onex Neorion Shipyards was installed in the early 2000s as part of an upgrade to establish a Super Yachts production line.
In addition to its function as a launching facility for newly built vessels, it was also used to haul out existing vessels of various types for maintenance and repair.
Between 2003 - 2016, two newly built 85.22-meter Super Yachts and three 28.60-meter fireboats were launched, while the facility was utilized for the regular maintenance of over 60 existing commercial and naval vessels.
The Syncrolift is integrated with TTS’s land-to-water transport system and corresponding land rail system, enabling the simultaneous lifting or repair of two or more vessels depending on their dimensions.
The main features of the system are as follows:
SYNCROLIFT (Shiplift):
• Lifting capacity: 37 t/m (≈2,500 tons)
• Maximum vessel dimensions: length 100 m x width 20 m x draft 4.8 m
• Platform length: 84.35 m
• Platform width: 22.20 m
• Maximum effective draft above the cradles: 5.10 m
SYNCROLIFT is upgrading domestic shipbuilding and ship repair capabilities in this sector as well, with ONEX continuing to invest in the substantial upgrade of all infrastructure in Syros and Elefsina.
New technologies, innovative ideas, and an investment plan exceeding half a billion euros reaffirm every day the vision of the President of ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group, Mr. Panos Xenokostas, that our country should strive for and achieve the top spot in every sector.
