In a move that seals the country's dynamic return to the global shipbuilding arena, ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group announces its strategic agreement with Antipollution (a member of the V Group). The agreement concerns the design and construction of four (4) state-of-the-art, ecological vessels (eco vessels), with an option for an additional four (4). The emblematic partnership was signed yesterday morning during the international exhibition "Posedonia 2026", in the presence of the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Mr. Vasilis Kikilias, underlining the importance of the project for the national economy and international shipping.
Designed and built entirely in Greece (Elefsina & Syros)
This agreement is a strong vote of confidence in Greek design and the know-how of domestic technicians. The new vessels will be designed and built entirely in Greece, utilizing the strategic network of the Elefsina Shipyards and the historic Syros Shipyards (Neorio) of the ONEX Group. The top quality, safety and environmental excellence of the vessels are guaranteed by their classification by the American classification society ABS (American Bureau of Shipping). The vessels will incorporate cutting-edge technologies for the collection of ship-generated waste and its transport to land-based facilities, in accordance with the strictest international standards of the MARPOL convention. At the same time, their advanced design makes them ready to operate in conditions of marine pollution and maritime emergencies, shielding the marine environment.
ONEX leads the specialized vessel market
With this project, ONEX proves that it has the infrastructure to carry out extremely complex and demanding new building programs. Following the successful construction of tugboats for MEGATUGS, the Group is dynamically expanding its newbuild portfolio in the high-end eco-vessel category, making Elefsina and Syros green shipping technology production centers
The statement of Mr. Panos Xenokostas
The Founder and President of ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group and President of the Association of Hellenic Shipyards, Mr. Panos Xenokostas, stated: “The agreement with Antipollution sends a clear message: ONEX has the strength, infrastructure and know-how to design and build in Greece any specialized vessel required by the global market. From tugboats, we are moving to new generation eco vessels. We are not just following developments in green shipping, we are shaping them here, in Elefsina and Syros. This is the new, great chapter of the Greek shipbuilding industry.”
Strong added value for the Greek economy
The ONEX – Antipollution partnership activates domestic industrial forces and utilizes the specialized Greek workforce of Attica and the Cyclades. The construction of the new fleet on Greek soil creates new jobs, keeps investment value within the borders and strategically strengthens Greece’s leading role in the global maritime ecosystem.
