Smart Parking Technology Solution by ONEX S.A

An integrated intelligent parking system, designed to relieve city traffic, upgrade and service its visitor and resident drivers, will be acquired by the Greek capital, Athens.

On Tuesday, April 9 2019, the Mayor of Athens, Giorgos Kaminis, announced the agreement between the Municipality of Athens, the Municipal Development Company of the City of Athens (DAEM SA) and the Association of Companies “OTE A.E. – ONEX Technology Systems & Business Solutions SA “.

The total budget of this smart parking project is € 497,950.00 and is due to be completed within 6 months of signing the contract.

The agreement includes the installation on the pavement of main commercial streets of Athens of a thousand (1000) smart parking sensors, which through the mobile application (iOS and Android) will inform the drivers for the exact location of free parking space, initially at the “Evangelismos” and “Kolonaki” areas.

Drivers, once in a smart parking space, will be able to pay for their parking time via the already operating “MyAthensPass” mobile app.

In addition, a single “Smart City Platform” will be installed to support and handle the sensors.

Athens municipality smart parking solution

The platform will provide the city’s administration a dashboard control center that will capture the overall situation of parking space in the center of Athens.

This way, the Municipal Police will be able to remotely control the legality and payment of the parking space as well as the proper operation of the whole system.

“This is the largest smart parking project in Greece and one of the largest in Europe,” stressed Mayor Kaminis, pointing out that “Athens is leading the digital transformation of cities by investing in large-scale projects”.
